Autodesk Platform Services (APS), formerly Forge, is a set of cloud APIs and services for building custom software on top of Autodesk design data. Instead of working around the limits of off-the-shelf tools, engineering organisations can use APS to view models in a browser, automate repetitive design and documentation work, extract data from CAD and BIM files, and connect Autodesk data to the rest of their business systems.
The core services cover most integration needs. The Viewer renders 2D and 3D models in any browser with no plugin; the Model Derivative API translates files and extracts their data; Design Automation runs Revit, AutoCAD, Inventor, and 3ds Max jobs in the cloud with no desktop involved; and the Data Management and AEC Data Model APIs give programmatic access to files and granular BIM data. The building blocks are well documented — the work is in combining them correctly around a real workflow.
Neilsoft's capabilities
Viewer-based applications
Web portals for model review, markup, measurement, and comparison without a CAD licence.
Design automation
Headless generation of drawings, models, and documents; batch processing; rules-driven Revit and Inventor workflows.
Product and design configurators
Front ends that generate valid CAD models and outputs from customer inputs.
Data extraction and reporting
Pulling quantities, properties, and BOM data from models into dashboards, BI tools, and ERP systems.
System integration
Connecting Autodesk data to PLM, ERP, and document management platforms through APS APIs and webhooks.
Applications in engineering
Automated documentation
Drawing and document generation from parametric models.
Embedded model viewers
Web viewers inside customer, procurement, or field applications.
Configurators and CPQ
Product configurators and quoting front ends for engineered-to-order manufacturers.
Quantity and cost data
Takeoff and cost extraction for AEC and plant projects.
Model-driven dashboards
Linking design data to project or business metrics.
CAD–PLM–ERP bridges
Keeping engineering and business data in sync across systems.
